Through her paintings Joni hopes to generate enthusiasm and passion for nature in others:

“ In a world of social and cultural stresses, issues concerning the health of the environment tend to be placed on the back burner. It is never popular for a politician to confront environmental issues head on, because to do so would inconvenience our lifestyles. No one seems willing to take that risk and upset the apple cart. I feel that overpopulation and environmental stresses are currently the most pressing threats to our species today. Many of the other issues demanding our attention are unavoidable predicaments that are a mere reflection of human nature. While we busy ourselves with the unending social issues of humanity, the ecology of our planet is in crisis, trembling under the weight of political neglect. In the end, it won’t matter what color we are or what God we believe in or how much material rubbish we have accumulated if there is not a habitable globe to reside on. I believe we must save nature if we are to save ourselves.”
